About Sorbafreeze

Sorbafreeze, the trusted chilled packaging experts

Trusted for over 25 years by companies around the world, Sorbafreeze manufactures and supplies specialist chilled packaging products to many sectors including seafood, dairy and meat suppliers, artisan food producers delivering to Michelin star restaurants as well as processors exporting live produce by airfreight.

Incorporated in 1990 in Aberdeen, Scotland, Sorbafreeze was set-up to primarily service the fishing industry in Aberdeen. The companies growth was fuelled by word of mouth as our reputation for customer service and ice pack performance grew within the industry.

In 2015, Sorbafreeze was purchased by the Pitreavie Group, a Scottish based supplier of specialist packaging.

In 2017 Sorbafreeze relocated to the Pitreavie Group’s headquarters in Glenrothes and invested over £750,000 in a new 20,000sq ft purpose-built production facility fully fitted out with custom manufacturing equipment.  Key personnel were appointed to drive its growth.

The original product range featured a unique hype- absorbent polymer core with a thermal layer and high-performance barrier to keep products such as meat, fish and cheese cooler for longer than traditional hydrated products during the delivery process. Since then our range has expanded and new products (including insulated packaging and pre-hydrated gel packs) have come online offering unrivalled performance in the temperature sensitive packaging sector. A further five-figure sum has been invested in our products and personnel to satisfy customer demand.

Sorba Freeze’s unique approach to temperature sensitive packaging has already established an extensive client portfolio, including some major brands in the Food industry

Gordon Delaney, Sales Director at the Pitreavie Group explained,

Sorba Freeze has been highly successful for the last 25 years. However, we are only scratching the surface in terms of its true potential and we are delighted to make this significant investment to realise it.  We have already been in talks with partners in America, China and Scandinavia and we are expanding our search to secure international agents who share our enthusiasm for providing a high-quality packaging solution to the chilled foods market.

We are proud of what we do. So are our clients

Carwyn Adams from Caws Cenarth points out “We aim to keep our products below 5°C. As we use non-refrigerated overnight couriers to transport our orders, we send our cheese out in purpose made insulated boxes layered with Sorbafreeze sheets to ensure the product reaches our customers in top condition. We know it works as our clients probe the products upon receipt.”

Dan Hendry of Scotprime commented “We’ve tried everything else, even 1 litre milk bottles filled with frozen water which equals 1kg of water but when you store water there is always the risk of typhoid or Cholera. With Sorbafreeze we know that by the time the customer gets their produce it will be at the exact temperature they require, giving them enough time to sell on to their end clients for processing. We’re dealing in huge volumes such as 400 kg of prawn orders, so we cannot afford to lose the stock and not be paid for it.”

The Savanna’s Managing Director, Lisa Gardshol commented “Sorbafreeze was recommended to us as the best solution for our online sales and UK wide deliveries and it has not let us down.”

Owner of the award-winning Buffalo Farm, Steve Mitchell, explains “We have previously used other packaging solutions for the products we courier across the UK, but we were never totally happy or confident that our products were going to arrive in pristine condition. With Sorbafreeze, no matter what happens in transit, we know for certain that the temperature will meet every requirement, there will be no leaks and most importantly the product will be in great condition.”

Stuart Williamson from Flying Fish Seafoods illustrates “We were using flaked ice to deliver our products but started receiving requests from customers saying they did not want to receive packages dripping with water. We therefore use Sorbafreeze pads to control the temperature and I am delighted at how it does exactly as we need it to do.”
